Date: 4 August 2026 Issued by: Localization Coordination Council – South Darfur State Severe flooding has affected several residential areas in Tulus Locality, South Darfur State, causing significant human and material losses. Floodwater has entered homes, residential compounds and internal roads. According to preliminary field information, the floods caused the death of a nine-year-old child and damaged approximately 75 houses, either partially or completely. Some families have been forced to leave their homes and move their belongings to safer areas. Water levels continue to rise, placing additional houses and families at risk. Food supplies, clothing, bedding and household items have been damaged, while movement in some affected areas has become difficult due to flooded roads and pathways. Urgent Humanitarian Needs Affected families urgently require: Evacuation from low-lying and high-risk areas. Temporary shelter, tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping mats and mosquito nets. Emergency food assistance and safe drinking water. Hygiene kits and water-purification materials. Medical assistance and essential medicines. Drainage of stagnant water and mosquito-control activities. Psychosocial support for affected children and families. A comprehensive assessment of houses, water sources and public facilities. The Localization Coordination Council warns of an increasing risk of waterborne diseases, malaria and diarrhoeal illnesses, particularly among children, older people, pregnant women and persons with disabilities. Urgent Humanitarian Appeal The Localization Coordination Council – South Darfur State calls upon local authorities, humanitarian organizations, United Nations agencies, donors and community initiatives to intervene immediately and provide emergency shelter, food, safe water and medical assistance to affected families. Field assessments and household registration are still ongoing. The number of damaged houses and affected families may increase as water levels continue to rise. The Council extends its deepest condolences to the family of the child who lost his life and calls for urgent collective action to protect the people of Tulus Locality.
